James Cameronís Avatar Video Slots 5-seater is Truly Awesome!

A couple days back,I was wandering into parts of Mohegan Sun I haven't visited for a while when I came across this-

Four hours later I finally stood up and walked away

This was, by far, my favorite slotting time in I don't know how long. The game experience is just a blast!

Not only are the graphics on both the large and small screens truly stellar, but the comfy seats have speakers in the head rest that play music from the film and deliver all the sound effects in such a way that it's a near theatrical experience. There are both individual and group bonus games that appear rather frequently and are well themed to the Avatar storyline. And, what really got me hooked - if you create an account (or login to an existing IGT account) then the game awards you Achievements and Experience points as you trigger different events. These experience points add up to unlock more features of the game as you reach higher levels.

The most frequent individual bonus game triggers randomly at the beginning of a spin and gives you a choice of three ways to modify the results of that spin. The Three options are Na'vi Pay, Banshee Wilds and Arrow Boost, but they are more familiarly referred to as Credits, Wilds or Multiplier. Multiplier awards a random multiplier to the spin (between 4x and 15x in my experience); Wilds has a flock(?) of Ikran/Mountain Banshees (the flying steeds form the film) fly across the screen dropping 3 to 8 Wild symbols before the spin; and Credits adds a fixed credit award to each of the different character symbols on the reels that is awarded as a Scatter in addition to whatever normal wins the spin awards. I triggered this choice bonus a total of 49 times in my four hours of play. I know because some of the Achievements are tied to the number of times you make each choice.

The other individual bonus is the Pandora Bonus. This triggers when you get two Bonus symbols and the Pandora symbol. In the Pandora Bonus (which has another, longer name I don't recall) you once again get to choose your bonus play. Initially, I believe it is between 4 or 5 different options. But then, as you gain Achivements, XP and Levels more bonus game options are revealed. I triggered the Pandora bonus maybe a dozen times in my four hours of play. Each of the bonus games is very different (and hard for me to explain) but range from Free Spins with extra goals to standard "pick the symbols" bonuses, to a kind of "spin off" combat between characters in the film. Like I said, hard to explain, but fun to experience. Basically, every bonus game style available anywhere is available here as well And, since you get to choose which bonuses to play you can always get the ones you enjoy most.

Group Bonuses are activated by way of Tokens that are earned by spinning two Bonus Symbols and a special Group symbol whose name I forget. You receive one token (x your bet multiplier) each time this spin comes up and can choose to use them immediately or hold them for later. However, once you reach 30 tokens you no longer have a choice and must play a group bonus round immediately. As long as you have at least one Group Token available the game will notify you if someone else activates a group bonus so that you may join in. You can choose how many tokens to use on each group bonus and every additional token adds another +1x to your Group Bonus win.

There are three different Group bonus options, and which you play is randomly selected by the machine. In one you need to direct your Ikran to attack one of a fleet of helicopters displayed on the big screen. Each helicopter awards a different credit amount (5 to 50) and if the group scores enough points each round you get more picks to continue into more rounds. The Second is similar, but instead of attacking helicopters you're battling "AMP" suits (the robot/Mechs the humans used in the film) and selecting which portion of the AMP to target, seeking a critical hit to destroy the enemy and move on to the next round. The third Group Bonus is essentially 5 Free Spins just like the first individual bonus mentioned above, but played on the big screen. Each player in the group gets to choose which option (Credits/Wild/Multiplier) to apply to the spin in order, starting with the person who activated the Group Bonus.

In addition to Achievements granting experience points unlocking some new game play features, they also allow you to customize the screen backgrounds, music, and your character representation in the game. The higher your level, the more choices are unlocked. Additionally, there are Secret achievements that are awarded by meeting certain goals (like a beating a Group Bonus challenge) while playing certain characters. I've only discovered one of these so far, and don't recall the details at the moment, but I'll post back with that info and keep my eyes out for more Secret Achievements, so if you have discovered any, please share them so we can all get the most out of this game.

Essentially, I didn't feel like I was gambling all this time, but playing a modern, high tech video game with a 103" screen. This was definitely off-putting to several people who were playing alongside me as there is so much going on and so many options that many players became confused and lost as to what to do or what was happening. But, for me, it's what dragged me in and kept me hooked.

Speaking of gambling, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume many of you are wondering how this baby pays. Well, I sat down to play with a $1278 TITO, and walked away with a $1295 TITO four hours later. So, basically, Mohegan Sun paid me $5 per hour to have an amazing amount of fun. My dropped as low as $9xx.xx and got as high as $15xx.xx during the session. Helping me walk away in the positive was a 26x Group bonus I played that gave me the day's high score win of $529.20:

I'm 100% hooked on this machine. So much so, that when I got home from my trip on Sunday night I immediately booked another trip and plan to spend the bulk of my Thanksgiving Day exploring this machine even more! So, if you happen to be at the Mohegan Sun on Thanksgiving be sure to drop by and play a few rounds with me. And if not, I;d love to hear your experiences on this machine as well as any Secret Achievements you manage to unlock!

Thanks for the report! We are scheduled to get this game in a couple of weeks and I'm really looking forward to it. While it is available in a number of different configurations we will be using the huge 5-seater platform with the giant screen. I can't wait to see it on that screen. It was too crowded to play at G2E so I'm not familiar with it at all, so thanks for the report.

Also.... I take it your user name is relevant to this

No, Aahz is just my name, which I also use as an online (and slot) handle.

Maximum betting 95% of the time. I only dropped down to lower bets when my Group Tokens were reaching 30 and there weren't other players to share in the forced group bonus.

Frankly, I don't understand it. There's lots of new terminology that doesn't seem to have any actual effect, and none of the staff seems to share anything other than quotes from the promotional material.

I do like that they dropped the needed credits for second tier down to 600 from 800. I'm expecting to reach second tier in January or February and then hope the rest of the new system will become more clear.

I didn't see it at Venetian/Palazzo. Hoping they get it soon. Loved it at G2E.

Also Boots and I had a blast playing IGT's Jurassic slot though I don't think that one has been released yet.

Thanks Aahz for posting all those vids!

I completely agree Aahz. Was at Mohegan myself over the past weekend. I was betting between $1.50 and $3.00 a spin. Sat down for 2.5 hours, my longest session on one slot ever, and walked away down about $80.

Loved the game, though I didn't hit any large bonuses like you, they were frequent, which I enjoy on penny slots. I can lose $80 on a g+ deluxe in 5 minutes with no return at all. I had a very interesting and fun time playing this game.

Looking forward to my next trip to play this.

P.S. Aahz, what's your opinion on Mohegans new players club system?

What a great write up Aahz! Thanks for pointing me to this thread. I too thoroughly enjoyed the game - by far my favorite IGT from recent memory. As requested, here is my community free spin bonus from this past weekend from MGM/Foxwoods.

Aahz - gotta ask, were your parents Robert Lynn Asprin fans?
