In Alberta, its already programmed from the manufacturer (EPROM) which is based on the Jurisdiction. When the machines are first setup (or rebuilt), the gaming commission chooses the available settings based on the configuration (specified by the commission). Each game will have different configurations for different situations (progressive, non-progressive, high / low denom, leased, non-leased). Once the settings are entered, the game will be built.

In Alberta the higher the Denom, the higher the pay out percentage. The lower the denom, the lower the pay out percentage. Progressives usually have the worse pay out percentage (as their is usually some sort of hold). Alberta has a pay out percentage of 82-94%

In Alberta, a second set of eyes (another tech) must verify the settings before the game is enabled. This is why sometime you see new games out of service for longer times. Especially if its a progressive.

Thanks for the information.... I believe that the US casino markets work the same way except that with the introduction of the server slots, the paybacks can be altered after the game is "built".

I have been a "Strictly Slots" magazine subscriber since it started back in the 1990's. Their subscription processing problems appear to be behind them as the last two years have been reliable and I have NOT missed a single issue (but I remember complaining with Deb about this in years past). I have to tell you that this "SLOT MACHINE PAYBACK" thread is mostly based on the data from this magazine since the 1990's.

YES... They are the same range of programmable options. Experience has shown that most NA casinos will be towards to bottom end of those ranges. When it come to Mega Progressives (WMS & IGT) they are all 86%-88% respectively REGARDLESS of casino anywhere in the USA.

Well...NA casinos in Florida are "unregulated" in that the State will not inspect winback % or playback %. The slot player wether or not he or she cares about win/losses/draws will be playing a NA casino that will or maybe not double check the % for a 3rd party. Just because no one can "do anything about it" in terms of changing or influencing that observation we can "complain" all day. I find it stupid that people only complain if and only if there is a reasonable expectation to be able to make the defending party change even the slightest... Sometimes I wish people collectively complain and that will be the source of influence. Anyways almost going off topic ..thanks for the answer, slotspert
