Very blessed today to have my dad, son, and grandson all around. Four generations--and everyone is in good health! I don't take this casually--I thank God for giving us this time together.

For those whose dads have gone on, my condolences. May you find some time today to remember the very best about them.

I'm also aware that many people have had bad or nonexistent relationships with their dads. I'm very sorry that happened, and it's probably extra painful on days like this. All I can say is, it wasn't your fault. Maybe you can rise above it and break the cycle. You can be the one who turns things around and is there for your kids.

If you're a dad who isn't speaking to a child of yours, maybe for a good reason, PLEASE consider whether you'll be able to explain yourself come judgment day. Will the angels agree that whatever the argument was about was worth ending the relationship? Maybe you can step up and be the man and make the call. Maybe an "I'm sorry" can start some healing.

Sorry if I'm getting preachy. I don't mean to do it. It's just that I've had such a great relationship with my dad that I wish everyone could have a great one, too!

I know that given my dad's age (82) he won't be around forever. Even in the last year, he's slowed down a bit, but he is still very sharp and he's one of my best friends. Tuesday, I'm driving him and my mom and DW to Reno for a few days. The odds are, Dad will outplay all the rest of us!

So again, I hope everyone finds a way to get something special out of this day.

    Mike
