All the best to you Wendy for your remodel. As someone who likes to do as much as I/we can ourselves, I totally understand where you are coming from. I am in the San Francisco bay area and we seem to have rules and regulations for everything and then some. I always make sure everything is done up to code to avoid any issues later.

What, no pix of the sandwiches???
haha ...seriously, how nice to do a big project like this with family. It'd be all worth it when it's done ...if you haven't killed each other yet.

Good luck on the project, Wendy. DH worked on a remodel last year for a family who basically redid the entire house, in 3 stages. The former Living room became the new bedroom, etc. (I don't remember if they actually did Stage 3, though!) During one stage, the "kitchen" was a microwave in the Master bedroom, with dishwashing done in the Master bath!

DW, our little temperate corner of the continent has grass year round, it just doesn't grow as fast in the winter!! We just had a few days of lovely weather, but somehow my DH managed to avoid mowing! He won't let me use the tractor, otherwise I could mow it myself.

Oh, yeah, almost forgot. On getting rid of the dirt, you have Craigslist there? Put it on as "free fill dirt, you haul", should be no problem. Free always seems to get a rapid response, although dirt might take a little longer. Also, if there are any kind of radio on-air call-in classifieds, that would work too. We have a radio station down here that does that, just pretty sure it would be harder to find someone willing to drive to Canada for it, even if it is free!!

    Zumzum,
Thankfully my Brother-In-Law was able to take it. Problem was that it wasn't "clean" fill in that it had sod, rocks etc... Thanks for the suggestions!
