    Other craps bets

In previous threads, we have talked about the pass line bet, come bet, odds bet and place bet. These are the bets bets on the craps table when betting with the dice. However, there are many other bets you can make. Most of the other bets are bad from a math standpoint, but I know craps players like to play longshots once in a while. For those new to the game or still learning, I will explain these other bets and how they work.

Hardway bets- This is probably the most popular prop bet on the table. A prop bet is a bet in the center of the layout. A hardway bet can be made on any or all even point numbers (4, 6, 8, 10) You win if the numbers are rolled the hard way (doubles) before they are rolled the easy way or before a 7 is rolled.

    Hard 4- wins with 2,2. Loses with 1,3 3,1 or any 7.
    Hard 10- wins with 5,5. Loses with 4,6 6,4 or any 7. Payout is 7 to 1.

    Hard 6- wins with 3,3. Loses with 2,4 4,2 1,5 5,1 or any 7.
    Hard 8- wins with 4-4. Loses with 3,5 5,3 2,6 6,2 or any 7. Payout is 9 to 1.

Unlike place bets, which are off on the come out roll, hardway bets are always working. You can tell the dealer to call them off on the come out if you wish, to protect against a come out 7.

Big 6, Big 8- This bet works just like a place bet on 6 or 8 except the payout is worse. You are betting that 6 or 8 will be rolled before a 7. Payout is even money. This bet is not available in all casinos and that's a good thing. Why anyone would ever make this bet, I don't know. You can place the 6/8 and get a 7 to 6 payout with a house edge of 1.52%, much better than the 9.09% edge on big 6 and big 8.

Fire bet- This bet is available at all CET properties and a few others. It must be made when a new shooter gets the dice. The fire bet wins if a shooter makes 4 point numbers before a 7 out. BUT, it must be 4 different point numbers. It can't be 6,6,8,8. That would only count as 2. It must be 6,8,5,4 or some other combination of 4 different point numbers for the fire bet to win. Although there are different payouts in some places, the most common payout is-

    25 for 1 on 4 point numbers
    250 for 1 on 5 point numbers
1,000 for 1 on all 6 point numbers

This is definitely a longshot bet. According to Wizard Of Odds, the house edge is 25%. I do occasionally bet a dollar just in case the shooter gets hot. I won this bet once at IP Las Vegas (now Quad) for $25, had a chance to get 250 but couldn't roll another 4.

Small, Tall, All (bonus craps)- These bets are available at MLife and BConnected casinos. Like the fire bet, they must be made before a new shooter rolls the dice.

Small- wins if the shooter rolls a 2,3,4,5, and 6 before rolling a 7.
Tall- wins if the shooter rolls 8,9,10,11, and 12 before rolling a 7.
All- wins if the shooter rolls 2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11, and 12 before rolling a 7.

The small and tall bets pay 35 for 1. The all bet pays 175 for 1. According to Wizard Of Odds, the house edge is 7.76% on small and tall, and 7.97% on all. I have won the small and tall bets a couple times, but never the all bet, although I saw other people win it at Beau last year. I prefer these bets over the fire bet. I don't make them on every shooter, but I do think it adds some excitement to the game. I wish all casinos offered the STA bets!

One roll bets- The rest of the bets are all one roll bets, meaning that the outcome will be decided on the very next roll after you make these bets. Most of these bets are bad bets and you should avoid them. On the other hand, it's your money!

Field- This is the best one roll bet on the table. The field bet wins if the next roll is 2,3,4,9,10,11, or 12. It loses if the next roll is 5,6,7, or 8. Payout is even money except on 2 and 12, which pay double. Some casinos pay triple for a 12. The house edge is 5.56%, unless 12 pays triple, that cuts the house edge to 2.78%

The rest of the one roll bets have a very high house edge, most are 10% or higher. You can win on them once in a while, but if you make them often, your bankroll will disappear fast.

Any craps- wins if the next roll is 2,3, or 12. Loses on all other numbers. Payout is 7 to 1.

C & E- wins if the next roll is 2,3,11, or 12. Loses on any other number. You must bet at least $2, 1 on C and 1 on E. Payout is 7 to 1.

Horn- same as above except you must bet at least $5 and make 4 bets, 1 each on 2,3,11, and 12. If the player puts $2 on 12 and $1 on the other numbers, the bet is a horn high 12.

2- wins if the next roll is 2, loses otherwise. Payout is 30 to 1.

12- same as 2, except wins if 12 is rolled.

3- wins if the next roll is 3, loses otherwise. Payout is 15 to 1.

11 or yo- same as 3, except wins if yo 11 is rolled.

Any 7- wins if the next roll is 7, loses otherwise. Payout is 4 to 1.

World or Whirl- wins if the next roll is 3,3,7,11, or 12. Loses otherwise. This bet must be at least $5, 1 for each number.

Hop- you are betting on a specific combination of the dice to come up. For example, if you think the dice will come up 6,3 on the next roll, you can make a hop bet on 6,3. Payout is 15 to 1. You can also make a hardway hop bet, meaning that the next roll will be 4,4 or any hardway. This bet pays 30 to 1.

My DH won the fire bet in Reno. Definitely a long shot, but I was so happy I had put my $1 down. The dealers were kidding us because it was my roll next and I got 4 for $25. I was trying to keep up with him though!

Congrats on your fire bet win Msunrullieone. I would love to hit all 6 points just once for for a cool grand. I saw one shooter make 5 points but I didn't bet on that shooter. Still made money but it could have been 250 more.

On my recent trip to Biloxi, I hit the small bet twice, once when i was shooting and once on another shooter. Both times, i was 1 number away from winning the tall and all bets, but 12 did not show up.
