Made this trip solo as my wife is saving her $$ for a trip to Maggie Valley in N.C. in October with her daughter to see the leaves change color. They rented a 2 bedroom cabin for a week- over $2000!! I will probably use that time to go back to Biloxi.
Anyway, as usual, I had a 3 night reservation at the Scarlet Pearl, and 3 nights at the Beau. I usually drive over and back on weekend days as traffic is lighter. But this time I left on a Thursday and came back on a Wednesday. And luckily the traffic was not bad- no accident or construction delays. But I did encounter a delay I have not hit before coming back. Just east of Pensacola there was a extra wide thing being towed with FHP escorts both in front of and behind it. To me it looked like a giant septic tank. But it was moving at 70 MPH so it was not too bad. But this continued all the way to Tallahassee so that is about 180 miles. As we all know, the usual speed on I-10 is 80 MPH or higher, so there was a backup. But I have been a driver for 60 years, and I had never hit a tow that took up the better part of 2 lanes.
I arrived at the SP about 2PM Central Time. I got room 308( I hate riding the elevators ) and the only problem I found with the room was that the bright light in the closet would come on several times a night without me opening the closet door. As I am a light sleeper, that woke me right up but luckily I was able to go right back to sleep. Otherwise the room was fine. But the safe had to be opened and closed with a credit card. First time I had hit that. So you could lock up all of your valuables BUT THAT CREDIT CARD. I really prefer just putting in your own PIN. That way everything can be put in the safe.
We were last at the SP in April and things were the same. The Sports Betting area in the back is very nice, and all of these areas in all of the casinos will be getting a lot of traffic soon with the NFL season about to start. The mix of slots had not changed much, but they had moved some around to different locations. And the 5 cent slots in the front had been replaced with penny slots. That is the rage now- penny slots. And why not- since these slots cost more to play, and revenues go up. I do like to play the "Buffalo" slots, and they have about 10. But they are occupied most of the time. They had a "free play" drawing my 2nd night, and I won $250. First time. It was a promotion for the "Pearl" slot cards. I ate most of my meals at the "Under The Oaks" restaurant. I have plenty of food credits at the SP, and the food here is good and they are open 24/7. One time I ordered a pizza at the new pizza restaurant. It was 6 large pieces, and cost $13. It was an effort to finish it. My slot results overall were better than normal for this trip, as I hit more bonuses. So I spent about $500 less. I do wish they would upgrade their fitness center. The Beau definitely has the advantage here. And their pool has no hot tub. I like to soak in there.
Then it was on to the Beau. As their parking garage is so far from the rooms, I always check my stuff with the bellhop. I asked the desk clerk for a room close to the elevator and on a lower floor, as I have had 2 hip replacements. She gave me room 468. The 4th floor was great, but I did not consider this room close to the elevator. As you have to wait for the room to be cleaned to check in, you usually just accept what they give you and you are happy to just unpack. So on it was to the slot floor. The Beau has a lot of "day gambler" buses, so it becomes very busy very quickly. And you cannot play the slots you want without waiting for the present player to move on. But once late afternoon comes, the buses pull out and things become less hectic. The Beau has a lot of slot machines, and a good variety of penny machines. They re-arranged the area back near the players club, and even cut the players club space in half. And the slots back there were moved around. This was all to accommodate the sports betting. And they have a large restaurant called "TAPS" by the "Snacks" bar. That former restaurant went by another name previously, but was still as large as it is currently. The slots here are much the same as in April. But I did play a new one called "vacation" with the Chevy Chase movie theme and hit a good bonus. It is back near the poker slots. Also a "Cleopatra" slot that has beautiful graphics if you get the bonus. Otherwise I love to play the "BarnYard" slots back by the non-smoking area. They have 3, but 1 was out of commission. A mid range spin is $2, but its a lot of fun to play. I always tike the walk to the "Haggen Dos" ice cream parlor to get one of their sugar cones with the soft yogurt. But the soft yogurt machine had been taken out. And the regular ice cream has way too many calories. So one of my enjoyments here is gone. My eating here consisted mainly at casual items at Snacks. The Tuna Melt is very good. But I had 2 free buffets at the Hard Rock. So that was my main meals while at the Beau. One other thing about the Beau. When I got home I saw that they sent me an email the morning of my checkout, asking if I wanted late checkout. That is a 1st for me. I guess they saw my slot $$ input.
The Hard Rock buffet is very good. Lunch is $15, and it is very tasty food. They have moved the buffet toward the back of the casino. I did play enough slots here to keep on their mailout list. The slot selection is not as good as at the Beau. But I can see a big improvement in the slots, as well as eating here.
Well that is all for now. Good health and good luck to all!!
As I said earlier, this was a more productive trip re slot wins. I hope to get back here in October while my wife is in N.C.
