NYC to Atlantic City on Greyhound--Major Rule Change

Greyhound and Academy Bus lines served pax from NYC to AC, a few years ago Academy discontinued service.
Greyhound sold open 4 day window tickets. Hourly and every half hour (mid day) different schedules serviced Ballys, Caesars, Harrah's, Resorts and Tropicana and sometimes the bus terminal in AC, but one could return on any bus within 4 days.
Now riders must purchase tickets for specific schedules, killing off the big plus of using GH's freedom of going and returning on "open date/time" tickets. The fare was $45 R/T but you got $25 in free slot play on arrival--I'm not sure if one still gets the bonus.
    Another "nail in ACs coffin".

I'm wondering what the downside was to Greyhound that they felt this change was necessary?

From May-October AC is a popular beach resort. One could arrive at the Port Auth bus terminal in NYC at 1 pm expecting ti get on a 2pm bus, but due to long lines, depart on a 3pm bus; at one time they would add an EXTRA bus if the waiting line was huge, now GH is short of buses and drivers, so they introduced this NEW "improvement" (ha ha).

So often, an "improvement" from a business never benefits the customer..case in point, new and improved slot club at Casino so and so.. Yeah, right..

I think that there are positives and negatives to having a scheduled return time. One positive is that it will make it easier to get a return seat at Ballys. That place can be a zoo. So now if your return ticket says Thurs at 11:40 AM, you will actually be able to board the bus at that time. On the negative side, if you run out of money and you aren't scheduled to leave for six more hours, you are stuck.
