    Christmas City.

The day after Thanksgiving traditionally kicks off the Christmas festivities in Bethlehem, Pa., known as the " Christmas City ".
The tradition starts with the lighting of the Christmas tree on a hill top in Bethlehem, and simultaneously the large " Star of Bethlehem " is lit on the opposite hill top on the campus of Lehigh University, and radiates over the whole city for the next 6-7 weeks.
Although much to be thankful for this year, a moment of sadness at the lighting Friday as we remembered Liz, the homeless lady, who was killed this past Jan 9th, while crossing the street, just 3 blocks away. Liz loved this time of year, and would always boast to me about how pretty " her city " was at Christmas, and would make these beautiful Christmas Tree ornaments to sell from her park bench to all the visitors who annually visit our city at Christmas. She will live on forever in all of us that loved her...
Joining my family was our extended new family with Mark, Allison, their parents, and Rebecca, and her repeating date, Tyler ( Thanks to my grandaughter ).
After the tree lighting it was off to the Hotel Bethlehem for a toast to new and old friends , and best wishes for the holidays. There is no place on Earth like the Hotel Bethlehem in its Christmas Splendor..
Dinner a block over at Tai Tai-2 for 14 ( they loved us ) and most everyone had the featured dish, " Drunken Noodles ", served with Shrimp, Chicken, Beef, or Lobster.
After dinner we all headed to the Sands, as " Secret Santa " had made a gift of a $ 25.00 TITO to each of us.
No one got rich, except my wife ( $ 580 on Heart Throb Lightning Links ) , who said she would donate her win to Santa the next time she saw him.....
New Friends, new relationships, lots of laughter, and a lot of future memories, a lot to be thankful for at Christmas.

How beautiful! Sounds like the place to be and some amazing people to be with..... Thanks for sharing it with us. This is often a hard time of year for some people and your evening reminds us all to have hope and live in the moment.

    Hi Wendy,

What made it so special is that half the people we were with we did not know a year ago , and I met directly or indirectly through my casino visits. They have become very special friends to my family and we look forward to each and every contact with them.
I've learned a valuable lesson from my wife, daughter, grandaughter, and great grandaughter on interacting with those we meet . I found out that what I was trying to instill in them already existed in their hearts, and minds, and maybe it was they who taught me..
My ladies go out every day as ambassadors of kindness and caring at work , at school, and every function they are involved in. It brings tears to my eyes every Thursday afternoon when we pick up our great grandaughter from her Charter school for her evening with " Nanny and Poppy " , and every child in the class gives her a hug before she leaves, and shows genuine affection to her as she does to them.
Her Mommy ( my grandaughter ) has successfully now helped create happiness for two of my " Strays ", Mark and Rebecca... Mark with her coworker, Allison, and they are now engaged, and Rebecca, with another of her co workers , Tyler, who now can't seem to stop smiling when they are together, and rewarded me with smiles instead of the tears I saw in her eyes when I met her just a few weeks ago on an early Sunday morning in the Poconos.
If that wasn't enough we have met all their parents who were with us Friday night, and are truly wonderful people..
My Christmas presents are people and that includes all the wonderful people I have come to know here, and I take you all with me on each of these get togethers.

    Hi Helen,

Before Katrina scattered my relatives to the 4 winds we would visit them in New Orleans every couple of years at Christmas. I have many fond memories of those visits and New Orleans is my 2nd favorite place at Christmas.
The festivities , the food, the music, the decorations, the people , will stay in my thoughts forever.
Hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season, and may Santa's Sleigh have lots of Hand Pays with your name on them..

Thank you! I've never been to NOLA at Christmas, The closest I've been is many years ago, they put up the Copeland (Popeyes Chicken Founder) Christmas lights and display at the State Capitol grounds. It was beautiful! I like to go to the Natchitoches La display they have annually. It draws people from all over. I can imagine Bethlehem is something to see during the Christmas season. Merry Christmas to you and your growing family! Wishing you more "majors" and the elusive "Grand" in 2019!!!
