Hello all,
This is sort of a trip report, loser hybrid. I lost, so I put it here.
As part of DW's and my drive through 9 states in the south over the past couple of weeks, to celebrate her (certain special age) birthday, we happened to find ourselves in three different parts of Mississippi, and stay at casino hotels each night. First was Harrah's in Biloxi. Nice people, clean room, really good hamburgers there, but neither of us could win a thing. We left there and explored around, stopping at the Nugget and Hard Rock, where we lost some more.
Next day we traveled up to Jackson to see the capitol building and the museum in the old capitol. Both are very nice, but as we looked around Jackson we decided not to stay there, so off we went to Vicksburg, where we stayed at the Waterview. A very nice desk clerk put us in a room with a great view of the Mississippi River. When we were "at home" we were able to watch the barges going down the river and it was pretty entertaining. At the casino. we lost again.
Next morning, after exploring the battlefield and driving around town gawking at the old buildings, we took a longish, very wet and flood-scary drive with water in some places on both sides of the highway up to Tunica and stayed at Resorts. It was here our results were most extreme. Low rolling, sore from my earlier losses, playing bets ranging from 20 cents to an occasional 60 cents, I dropped $95 before hitting my first bonus, which netted me something like four dollars. I was ready to give up, but then DW did something that I've never done in all my years of WW2, which is she hit ravens all the way across with three more in the mix. Her 50 cent bet won $300! I accepted her pity offer of $40 and promptly lost that, too, and she played a little more, lost a little more, but at least she went home a winner for the day.
Our trip was great fun. We arrived in Atlanta, drove to Greenville, SC, Asheville, NC, Knoxville, TN, down through Alabama to Pensacola, then across the gulf coast to Biloxi. We made small incursions into Louisiana and Arkansas too. Since neither of us had ever been in any of those states, every mile was an adventure. The casinos were fun, but losing every day can really add up. Thanks to DW's good luck on one spin, it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Best wishes to all who read this! May you NEVER have to post on the losers' page!
