Wow, very sorry to hear that. It sucks that your local is Tampa Hard Rock. I've been to casinos all over and that one is by far the tightest in my opinion. Sucked the fun right out of gambling. Is there another one you can go to? Maybe you can take a break and save for trips to Vegas or elsewhere?

Very sorry about your losses but it is a growing trend. I think part of it is the casinos have figured out that most people are accepting the losses as long as they are comped so the pays are where they'll be. I'll continue saying what I always say, as long as we keep coming that won't change a thing.

Thanks for all of the responses. I wanted to comment on some of the posts. I did spend all of the money in my account and left myself with only $2.00 for 3 days. That was not my intent. I just wanted to hit something, anything decent. One thing is certain - I am not alone in having spent excessively like that. In fact, I think losing in the manner I described is, unfortunately, pretty common and happens to a lot of people every day.

Do I have a gambling problem? It's very likely. Did this have a negative impact? Of course it did. It completely sucked. But know that I had paid every possible bill beforehand and still had $3600 left. Even if it was extra money, it still could have been put to far better use. I am not rich. Like one of the earlier posters said, it was a lesson learned.

I do think my story is a good example of casinos and slots these days.

On a side note, I got a bounceback free-play of $125 today (which I think is a little weak). I don't even feel like going back to use it. I can see it now- drive 30 mins, lose the $125 in 15 mins, 30 min drive home. No interest.
I don't post very often but I was wondering if at the end of the year you could get a lost statement from the casino and claim the losses on your taxes? Idk just a thought.

    ciao

We shouldn't be attacking this guy...losing 3600 on 5 dollar bets would be roughly the equivalent of losing 700 on one dollar bets in the same time frame, and I am pretty sure most here would call that unacceptable and ridiculous.

The casinos are the ones that deserve criticism, not this guy.

I admit that I've been there. I had a decent little run in March and early April to the point that when I was putting together my April budget I had enough left over to move some money from my expense account to my emergency account. I was so happy to do this and it put that emergency account to its highest level ever. I felt pretty good about it.

Then I had a session similar to this (except it was blackjack, not slots). I had to transfer that money I had just moved back into my expense account. It wasn't the end of the world. I could have covered my expenses just without my acceptable buffer. Completing that transfer was still one of the must frustrating things I ever had to do. It led to me taking the month of May off so that I could clear my head.

All blame and criticism lies directly at my feet. I truly don't think we should be pointing fingers at the casino. Stuff like this can happen at the highest paying slots or the tightest slots. It happened to me on blackjack, which has better odds than slots by a wide margin. Ultimately, like cococrisp mentioned, these have to be lessons learned in some way.

Oh I see! So people who get hand pays that are reported to IRS try to book loses against the wins. Hopefully the OP will have wins this year.

I am off the THR since they made a number of changes. It is closer and more profitable for me to use the casino boat out of Port Canaveral. In fact I am going there Monday with Mrs flyguy and both will have much smaller BR's than the OP. Their table games rules are the best in Florida and I haven't heard of anyone having similar (to OP) bad luck on the slots. I rarely win on the slots there but they do have over 600 including one or two each of he newer ones like Superman, Tarzan, Cash Wizard, WOZ . They usually have live entertainment and even Bingo on their cruises. Mondays this month include a chance of $50 free play each half hour for anyone playing a slot.
I bet you I can stop gambling!

Yeah, if the IRS let you just deduct all gambling losses, it would be beneficial for everyone to gamble all the time! No worries about losses since they'd be recouped one way or another. Sadly, that's not how it works...
