The Start of my Building a CRAPS table post!

    Day 1 & 2 Photo Set #1

OK, I'm very excited so many users here showed interest in my building a craps table post. So here it is!

So a year of so ago I got the bug to build my own 8' craps table. I went as far as bought a lot of the tools, material, and all the table goods I needed including the felt, the Diamond Pyramid rubber, rail rubber, ON/OFF pucks, 12 dozen sets of precision cut casino dice, etc. Bought it all and then, nothing. I got busy with this and that and never got around to working on the table, until this weekend! This weekend I started the build. I used photos of tables from the internet as reference, looked at several plans for tables, and actually had another user on a different forum sent me a ton of photos with measurements of a table he bought. His table had the words "Biloxi Belle" on the felt. But regardless, I decided for my needs I wanted to design my own plans and decided to go for a 12 footer, not an 8. So using the photos and measurements the other member sent me, I used AutoCAD to design my own plans, material cut sheets etc.

Here are the photos from this weekends progress!!! For the end walls, with the curves, I did a test piece with cuts to make sure the measurements I created, were actually going to allow the curved wall to fit correctly to the curves I made in the table base I cut. Everything is working out perfect so far! I will give me "details" of what materials I am using and how I'm putting it all together, but for now I just wanted to get my build thread started!

I hope you enjoy the photos and following my progress!

    Day 1 & 2 Photo Set #4

I test fit a template that I cut from the same Oak Ply to make sure it would properly fit the table top I cut with the radius's. I actually cut the kurf cuts on my 10" table saw and I build a tables saw sled that I can simply lay the side walls in and it allows me to make very precise cuts. Originally I started off thinking I wanted a 8ft table and created drawings for it. But decided 12' was regulation and more the size in a casino so I changed my plans to a 12ft table. I'm using 3/4" thick stock Oak Ply, it will be 2 layers. I will seal the wood, and it is going to be setup in tv/movie room where it's A/C & heated. I'm not sure I'll have an issue. For the chip rails and the rail trim I am using oak and dark walnut. I think it will look great with the "deep Burgundy" felt I bought!

Day 3 photos Photo Set #1:

OK, only had about an hour to work on the table this evening). This evening I laid out the left and right inside end pieces for the table. Also laid out the cut lines from the template that made yesterday evening that I fit to my radiuses. This I laid out the length, kurf cut lines etc. Once I get this one complete and formed to my radiuses, I will create a new template for the outside end piece. Then fit to the table and once it's perfect I will cut the outside end pieces! Also here is a photo of the awesome walnut I have that I will make the chip rails and other rail trim pieces out of. I have some oak that is 1 7/8" thick that I'll do something with! as for pieces cut, all table pieces are cut, I need to make the kurf cuts in the outside and inside end pieces, I need to then move on to the chip rails, rails, padding and drink shelf. I will need to also make the leg base for the table to sit on. Once that is done, I will sandy, seal the wood with a matt type finish get all assembled etc. Thanks for following my build thread. Hope you enjoy the photos!

Nice! Love the progress and can't wait to see the finished project! DI/DC aside, doing a project like this is awesome, plus it's a cool thing to have around for parties and get togethers. As for practicing DI/DC it will obviously help. Even if you don't become Dominator, it would be nice to develop a throw.

I thought about making one of those small practice shooters. I love bet strategies and getting in on a hot shooter, of course, but I personally love throwing the dice. My second favorite trip was where there were just three of us at a table for an hour. We all shot well and had a ton of fun!
