    Video Poker Strategy

Every thing I read has stated that Video Poker when played correctly -- yields a much lower house advantage.
The key phrase here is when played correctly....
Can anyone point me to a good book / website / article that describes the "correct way to play" video poker.

I do know how to play poker; but really do know how to keep the best cards ........

Freeslots.com has the best free video poker training program I know of on the internet. It covers JOB, BP, DDB, several variations of Deuces Wild, and other popular VP games. I like it b/c it calculates the accuracy of each play and lets you know if you make a mistake how far that brings down your overall session accuracy. Try it I think you will like it. When you go to their website they have other slot games . You need to look towards the bottom and then click where you see video poker listed and it should take you to the training program.

As far as books go Frugal Video Poker by Jean Scott and The Video Poker Edge by Linda Boyd will also guide you in the correct way to play and both have strategy cards with them. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Seemoreroyals is steering you the right direction he told me about it and I've been using it I still make a few mistake's but not many maybe 1-200 hands and they are usually very minimal. Once you look and see your mistake it's easy to remember next time.

Agree completely. I thought I was a decent player, but those trainers really helped. I started to remember all of my mistakes when the more difficult hands come up and I think I'm a much better player now. I also was able to get close to mastering a few more games than just Jacks or Better- hitting four aces with the kicker on double double bonus have turned of my losing trips to casinos from the slots into winning sessions.

Also, make sure you learn the paytables. When I first started playing video poker, I realized a couple of my local casinos have some horrendous paytables on their video poker, makes them no better than slots. (I was playing VP at those and was losing more than ever at first) Some of my locals have really good tables too near 100% payback, that type of thing really makes a difference. For info on that try vpfree2.com you can look up area casinos and see what they have in addition to learning what good paytables look like.

Use this if you want to come up with a quick basic strategy for a particular game and paytable combination. I find it most effective when I need to quickly learn an adjusted strategy for a progressive game.

I'll add on, normally once you just begin to have competency in a game, playing a little incorrectly is better than slot play. I'm 95% accurate and it's good enough for recreational gambling. Any less would be fine, but for perfectionists it's tough anything less than perfect. However there are new games specifically designed in my opinion to make recreational gambling a very costly mistake, possibly worse than slot play. Color match and the new Ultimate X games will eat anyone alive.
    That's all folks!

    Accuracy question

    perfect play 100.762% 99.728%
I started using the freeslots for DWFP and DW16/10
my results over 3 hours of playing 97.6% 97.3%

without "cheating". My question is... how much of a negative is my not making perfect play going to affect my intake of money? thanks for serious replies

I play VP 8/5 Bonus with Perfect Play (Bob Dancer's Advanced Level 4). I am more entertained with slots, so have chosen to just perfect my skills with the one version of this game which can still be found in some LV casinos (including the Cromwell on the strip). The long-term affect on seeing total payback approach or exceed the perfect play percentages, is the frequency of hitting a Royal Flush in a time period it takes to cycle, lets say, 100,000 hands (which would take a lot longer then three hours). If you see 2-3 royal flushes in this cycle, then the numbers would get close to those seen "advertised" regardless of the Straight Flush and Penalty Card perfect play. Trying to calculate the more difficult Straight Flush strategies (AKA SF3+/- 1,2) AND the Penalty Card strategy, is where the additional extra percent or two might become relevent without hitting a Royal Flush in a shorter time frame, which is probably what is affecting a few of the percentage points you are seeing in your experiance.

Thank You for the answer. I was thinking that the few and far Royals and SF and card penalties would affect the overall numbers. So pretty much I will be happy with the number I am at now and work out the smaller errors I make, usually when tired lol. So you play VP 8/5 Bonus only? I like to play the 1 2 2 3 4 13 16 25 200 250 one I am not sure if that is plain deuces wild or what. Am i better off to then seek out only 8/5 machines in vegas?
